STEP 1 • SPEAK
Father, as we continue to study Your Word, give us discernment to glean insight that comes only from You. Direct our study time and lead us into closer fellowship with You through Your Word. In Jesus' name, Amen.

STEP 2 • TEXT
Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; and give me life in your ways. (Psalm 119:37, ESV)

STEP 3 • OBSERVE
Today, let's observe commentaries for our challenge verse.

Using a study Bible or online tools (see Challenge Resources), read a few commentaries on Psalm 119:37. Pay attention to what stands out to you and how it deepens your insight into this verse. Record your observations in your challenge journal.

Below are links to some commentaries I found helpful. (And I added my favorite quotes from each resource. 🥰)

C. H. Spurgeon Psalm 119 Verses 33-40
Quote: Sin first entered man's mind by the eye… ~ C. H. Spurgeon

Alexander Maclaren Psalm 119
Quote: The heart is often led astray by the eyes. ~ Alexander Maclaren

H.B. Charles, Jr. Teach Me! (Psalm 119:33-40) *Note: Scroll down to the section heading "Your eyes."
Quote: There is an organic connection between the eyes and the soul, what we see and who we are, what we look at, and how we live. ~H.B. Charles, Jr.

Berean Study Bible Notes
Quote: Revival through God's word highlights the transformative power of Scripture. ~Berean Study Bible

QUESTIONS:
1. How do the above commentaries deepen your understanding of Psalm 119:37?
2. What does Psalm 119:37 teach you about renewing your mind and heart?

STEP 4 • REMEMBER
What is one takeaway from your meditation on Psalm 119:37 today?

STEP 5 •YOUR TURN
1. Add to your "Re-Focus List" in your challenge journal by writing another way you can redirect your attention back to Jesus when you are tempted to focus on "worthless things."
2. Take some time to prayerfully meditate on Psalm 119:37 and journal your thoughts.

See you tomorrow!
